Obituary of Willie Ogden

Willie Allen Ogden,84, of Amherst died Monday, November 26, 2007 at his residence. Born in Amherst County on February 9, 1923. he was a son of the late James Ashby Ogden and Annie Mae Allen Ogden and was the husband of Pauline Cash Ogden for 65 years. Mr. Ogden was a graduate of Pleasant View High School. A WW II army veteran having served in the pacific theatre. He served as mayor for seven years and for nineteen years as a councilman of the Town of Amherst. A 54 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Amherst Chapter # 73 AF&AM. He was the president of Burch Ogden & Schrader for fifty years and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Amherst. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Patricia and John Evans of South Hill, Priscilla and Jack Shuler of Bowling Green, W.A. Ogden, Jr. and Angelia of Amherst and Paul Ogden of Amherst.. Seven grandchildren, Sep and Penny Evans of South Hill, Doug Jobe of Amherst, Chris and Kaarina Jobe of Richmond, Ashley Ogden of Amherst, Ethan Hope-Ogden of Amherst, Tracy and John McGuire of Richmond, Michelle and Andrew Caldwell of Hickory, NC. Ten great grandchildren. Four sisters, Eleanor Paris of Warrenton, FL, Mamie Spradlin, Marion Goin and Clara Wood all of Lynchburg. The family would like to thank UVA Continuum Home Health Care and Dr. Rick Bendall.. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM today at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Hazlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Amherst Cemetery. The family received their friends Tuesday evening at the church. Diuguid Funeral Service and Crematory, Wiggington Chapel, 385-8900, in charge of arrangements.
