Obituary of Evelyn Carwile Stargell
Evelyn Arlene Carwile
Stargell, 91, of Lynchburg died Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born on August 4, 1916, to the late Charles Robert and Janie Lee
Carwile. She was the beloved wife of the
late Kirkwood Lewis Stargell. She is
survived by two devoted step-daughters, Susan S. Boyne and husband Michael of
Frederick, MD, and Sherry S. Osborne and husband, Tom, of Littlestown, PA; four
step-grandchildren, Brian Osborne and wife Laura of Reisterstown, MD, Patrick
Boyne and wife Stacey of Albuquerque, NM, Amy Osborne of Baltimore, MD, and
Colleen Boyne of Washington DC; three great-granddaughters, Riley and Abigale
Boyne, and Emma Osborne; two brothers-in-law, Hollis Stargell and wife
Elizabeth of Schuyler, and Jimmy Stargell and wife Janice of Charlottesville,
VA. She is also survived by a very
special nephew, Daniel Cheatham, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Brookneal, VA. Four additional nephews, Barnett Jackson and
wife Beverly of Richmond, VA, B.W. "Bill" Jackson and wife Peggy of Dunnville,
KY, Robert Jackson and wife Faye of Ashland, VA, and David Carwile of GA. Two special nieces, Jane Evelyn Faries Hopper
of Livonia, MI, and Dorothy Gaye Carwile Harris and husband Bernard of
Scottsville, VA; as well as many great-nephews, great-nieces and host of close
family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a
step-grandson, Kirkwood Francis Boyne; two brothers and six sisters: Raymond Carwile, Mitchell "Screechy" Carwile,
Olive Jackson, Mary Ericksen, Nanny Foster, Pearl Mason, Pattie Cheatham and
Georgia Faries.
Evelyn retired from the Navy
Department Supply System Command, after 30 years of service in Washington DC. She and her husband, Kirk, retired to Remington, VA and enjoyed several wonderful years together. After her husband's death, she returned to Lynchburg in 1980. She
has been a long time member of the Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg,
an active member of the Beta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a
member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the National Association
of Retired Government Employees.
Her family will receive friends for a viewing at
the Diuguid Wiggington Chapel, 811 Wiggington Road, on Sunday, May 4 from 4-6. The funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00
a.m. at
the Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. Burial will
follow at 1 p.m. in Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville, VA. In lieu
of flowers, those who wish may consider a donation to the Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, VA, or a charity of their choice.
