Obituary of Jean Coates Nester

Jean C. Nester (81) died unexpectedly on Saturday July 18, 2020.  She was born at home in Campbell County Virginia in 1939.  Jean graduated from William Campbell High School where she played softball, which she loved.

Starting in her childhood, Jean was involved in her churches.  She was an Acteens leader for many years working with teenage girls.  She also loved to sing and was a member of choirs and musical groups from a young age.  She was in the Harmonettes and Maranatha Corral at Beulah Baptist Church as well as leading the children’s choir.  Later in her life Jean was instrumental in setting up and running the library at Lakewood Baptist Church, which she cherished and enjoyed.

In 1956, Jean married William C Nester. From this union Albert, Stephanie and Michael were born.  She was a devoted wife and mother.

One of her great joys was visiting all 50 states, including the state capitals, with her husband, Bill. They celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary with an Alaskan cruise which was the last state on their list.  This past June, they celebrated their 64^th anniversary.  

Jean is preceded in death by her father, James Preston Coates; mother, Virginia Tanner Coates; and sister, Linda Gale Coates.

Jean is survived by her husband William (Bill); her children (and their spouses):  Albert (Ian Zachary), Stephanie (Barbara Smallwood) and Michael (Kim); her grandchildren: Giada and Ronan; and siblings: Carolyn Keene, Pat Giles (Richard), Preston Coates Jr. (Elaine), Hammond Coates (Connie) and a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral Services on Friday, July 24, 2020 at time 11:00 AM Lakewood Baptist Church
2469 Sunburst Rd, Evington, VA 24550.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Diuguid Funeral Services 21914 Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Internment following service at Virginia Memorial Park 11490 Forest Rd, Forest, VA 24551.
